Moving Day Guide: How to Safely Disassemble, Transport, and Reassemble Your Electric Standing Desk
You've come to rely on your Venace electric standing desk as the centerpiece of your productive and healthy workspace. But now, it's moving day. Whether you're relocating to a new home or a new office, the thought of moving a heavy, sophisticated piece of furniture with electronic components can be daunting. Unlike a simple table, a standing desk requires a bit more care to ensure it arrives at its destination safely and continues to function perfectly.
Don't worry—the process is more straightforward than you might think. With a clear plan and a few essential tools, you can safely disassemble, transport, and reassemble your desk, protecting your investment and getting your ergonomic setup back online in no time. This guide will walk you through the process step-by-step.
Before You Begin: Preparation is Everything
-
Gather Your Tools:
-
The Original Tools: Find the Allen keys and wrenches that came with your desk. These are perfectly sized for your desk's hardware. If you can't find them, a standard metric Allen key set and an adjustable wrench will work.
-
A Power Drill/Driver (with care): A drill with the correct hex bits can speed up disassembly, but set it to a low torque setting to avoid stripping the screws.
-
Moving Blankets or Bubble Wrap: Essential for protecting the desktop and frame components from scratches.
-
Packing Tape: For securing the blankets and wrapping smaller parts.
-
Labeled Bags: Small plastic bags (like sandwich bags) and a marker are your secret weapon for keeping all your screws and bolts organized.
-
Lower the Desk: Before unplugging anything, use the control panel to lower the desk to its absolute lowest position. This makes it more stable and compact for disassembly and moving.
-
Unplug and Disconnect: Unplug the main power cord from the wall. Then, disconnect all your computer and peripheral cables. If you have a complex setup, take a quick photo of your cable connections before you unplug everything—it will be a helpful reference later.

The Disassembly Process: Working in Reverse
Think of this as the reverse of your original assembly. It's best to do this with a partner.
Step 1: Flip the Desk With a partner, carefully flip the entire desk upside down so it is resting on its desktop. Place it on the moving blankets you prepared earlier to protect the surface.
Step 2: Disconnect the Electronics This prevents any wires from being snagged or pulled during the move.
-
Unplug the cables from each motor (M1, M2) from the main control box.
-
Unplug the cable from the control panel (handset) from the control box.
-
Unplug the main power cord from the control box.
Step 3: Remove the Legs
-
Unscrew the bolts that attach each lifting column (leg) to the main frame brackets.
-
As you remove each leg, immediately place all its corresponding bolts into a labeled bag (e.g., "Leg Bolts").
-
Carefully set the legs aside.
Step 4: Remove the Frame from the Desktop
-
Unscrew the wood screws that attach the main frame structure to the underside of the desktop.
-
Place all these screws into another labeled bag (e.g., "Desktop Screws").
-
Lift the entire frame assembly off the desktop.
You now have three main component groups: the desktop, the frame, and the two legs.

The Transport Process: Protect Your Investment
-
Wrap the Desktop: This is the most vulnerable part. Wrap the desktop completely in moving blankets or several layers of bubble wrap, paying special attention to the corners. Secure it with packing tape.
-
Wrap the Frame and Legs: While more durable, the frame and legs can still be scratched or dented. Wrap them individually in blankets or bubble wrap.
-
Keep Hardware Together: Tape your labeled bags of screws and bolts directly to the corresponding wrapped frame component. This is the single best way to avoid losing crucial hardware during the move.
-
Transport with Care: When loading onto a truck, transport the desktop vertically on its long edge if possible. Avoid stacking heavy items on top of it.
The Reassembly Process: A Fresh Start
Once you're in your new space, the process is simply the reverse of disassembly.
-
Lay Out Your Protected Desktop: Place your wrapped desktop upside down on a protected floor.
-
Re-attach the Frame: Position the main frame onto the desktop and secure it with the screws from your "Desktop Screws" bag.
-
Re-attach the Legs: Mount the legs to the frame using the hardware from your "Leg Bolts" bag.
-
Reconnect the Electronics: Plug the motors, control panel, and main power cord back into the control box.
-
Perform the Flip: With your partner, carefully flip the desk onto its feet.
-
Level the Desk: Your new floor is likely different from your old one. Use a level and adjust the leveling feet to ensure your desk is perfectly stable and wobble-free. (Refer to our guide on leveling for details).
-
Plug In and Initialize: Plug the desk into the wall. This is a critical final step. You must re-initialize the desk. Press and hold the "down" button until the desk lowers completely and resets (it may beep or the display may flash "RST").
Conclusion: Ready for a New Chapter
Moving your electric standing desk doesn't have to be a source of stress. By following a methodical process of disassembly, careful protection during transport, and thoughtful reassembly, you can ensure your valuable ergonomic workstation arrives safely and is ready to serve you in your new space. A little care and organization go a long way in protecting your investment for the long haul.
